Thames Strategy EastThames Strategy East is a vital tool in enabling the regeneration of the Thames Gateway and ensuring that the Thames is placed at the forefront of development considerations. The Strategy ensures that the vital development of Thames Gateway makes the most of the areaís greatest asset ñ the River Thames. It also promotes the Riverís role in enhancing the quality of life for the new communities and maximises the opportunities to use the river for transport and recreation purposes. In short it places the River Thames at the heart of the Thames Gateway.

The Thames Strategy East presents a 100-year vision for the Thames from Tower Bridge to Gravesham. It provides landscape and design guidance for developments, sympathetic to the current, important landscape features. This means it encourages new developments to take into account local heritage, important areas of habitat, recreation, access, flood defence, and all the other features that make up the distinctive landscape of the Thames today. Hopefully, in the future, developments will fully appreciate the value of the Thames and its rich character, conserving past landscapes and including them in the landscapes of the future.

As the Thames Strategy East document is very large, we have produced it here in sections to make it easier to download.
