From October 2010 the Tidal Thames Education Network group and the River Thames Alliance Learning Partnership officially formed  the Thames Learning Group, having previously worked together since early 2009.

Many people are unaware of the value of the Thames Estuary. Indeed it is often regarded as a polluted, lifeless area of little value that is a threat to homes and property because of flooding. If the Thames is to be managed in a sustainable manner, perceptions must change. There is an enormous amount of work already being done by individual organisations to promote awareness of and access to the Thames. These include education trusts, local community centres, museums, tourist and leisure attractions, local authorities and conservation organisations.

The Tidal Thames Education Network (TTEN) links organisations, from Teddington to the Sea, who are involved in providing education about the Thames.

The Network meets three times a year, hosted by different member organisations, to exchange information, develop joint projects and benefit from training and professional development initiatives. In recent years this network has now made strong links with the River Thames Alliance Learning Partnership (covering the non-tidal bit of the Thames) chaired by Pal Mainds (River and Rowing Museum, Henley).

In early 2009 the Tidal Thames Education Network and the River Thames Alliance Learning Partnership agreed to work on a single on-line map for river related education centres to raise awareness and make finding a local centre easier.
