Tidal Thames Habitat Action Plan PDF Print E-mail
The Tidal Thames Habitat Action Plan (TTHAP) has been constructed to address biodiversity issues for the whole Tidal Thames. It provides an overview of the status of habitats, examples of work on the ground, issues impacting the habitat and a list of actions to sustain and improve habitat quality and quantity in the future.
The TTHAP aims to:
Conserve and enhance the wildlife habitats, species diversity and local distinctiveness of the Tidal Thames
Adopt a strategic approach to deliver biodiversity targets for the Tidal Thames as whole
Promote public awareness and appreciation of the Tidal Thames.
To enable a complete coverage of the Tideway it is crucial that the Plan is adopted by the various Planning Authorities in London, Kent and Essex, in their own policy and development frameworks.
Estuaries are not recognized within national biodiversity action plans although some individual habitat and species that are characteristic of this environment are. The TTHAP has been written to embrace relevant UK Biodiversity Action Plans as well as associated habitat and species plans for the Thames Tideway. It is mindful of targets set in the national plans and serves as a tool to deliver targets at a local and national level.
